For years, we’ve heard stories of the mythical creatures and legendary beings said to inhabit the American national parks. National park mythical creatures live on in our minds and imaginations, and we can’t help but wonder if these beasties and spooky creatures once truly did walk the paths and trails we now enjoy today. Case in point, the Wampus Cat is a legend still discussed by the descendants of Cherokee peoples who lived in the area that is now Shenandoah National Park. According to eye witness accounts, the stealthy cat-like creature has terrifying features, including razor sharp teeth, glowing green eyes, retractable claws, and a seemingly intentional habit of letting itself be spotted by lone hikers and wilderness explorers, though it’s never been photographed (that we know of). Inspired by these old legends and stories of mythological creatures of the national parks, Anderson Design Group poster artists hand-rendered a vintage-styled poster of the mysterious Wampus Cat legend, an original illustration and retro design crafted in a fashion that’s reminiscent of the golden age of poster art, vintage art, Art Deco, and classic travel illustrations. This iconic monster design is available as a poster print (framed or unframed), canvas, metal sign, or as a notecard or postcard, with multiple size options available for prints, canvases, and metal signs.
