Most national parks are primarily tasked with preserving natural spaces, biodiversity, threatened species, and sensitive ecosystems. While all parks contribute to ecological preservation, some also play a significant role in protecting human history. There is no national park where this is on display as much as in Mesa Verde National Park. The 52,000-acre park was first designated in 1906 to protect more than 5,000 known archaeological sites. The park is best known for its preserved cliff dwellings, archaeological proof that the Ancestral Puebloan people made the cliffs their homes as far back as 600 BC. Today, half a million people visit the park each year to learn about the archaeological sites and to literally look through the windows of time. To celebrate Mesa Verde, Anderson Design Group teamed up with artist Nguyen Tran to hand-render this striking night scene.
