New River Gorge National Park: Looking Up By Kenneth Crane, Joel Anderson, 2021
- New River Gorge National Park: Looking Up
Welcome to America’s 63rd National Park! Known for its mountain ranges, hiking trails, babbling brooks and rushing rivers, plus its quaint towns and communities, West Virginia’s New River Gorge now attracts thousands of visitors each year and is one of America’s newest additions to the park roster. The clear focal point of the park is the New River Gorge Bridge, a masterpiece of engineering that was completed in 1977 yet which has a very vintage style to it. The gorge bridge is the longest steel-span bridge in the U.S. and the third tallest. It is not only an incredible feat of engineering, it’s a work of art too! Inspired by the creation, the effort, the engineering, and the design that went into the bridge, Anderson Design Group’s artist collaborator Kenneth Crane handcrafted a vintage travel poster of the bridge, styling the poster with influences from mid-century WPA-commissioned artwork.
