National Parks preserve both natural wonder and cultural history, and important landmarks that tell stories of America’s past. Case in point, the Freedom Statue, also known as the “Conch Blower,” is located in Virgin Islands National Park, immediately in front of a ferry dock. Installed on July 3, 1998, it commemorates the 150th anniversary of the 1848 emancipation of enslaved people in the Danish West Indies.
