Back in the mid-1800s, people thought that Half Dome (a towering rock formation in Yosemite National Park) would never be reachable by foot. But in 1875, George Anderson reached the summit of the giant mountain. The peak rises 5,000 feet above Yosemite Valley and is known for being challenging and rewarding for hikers and climbers alike. Some who visit the park attempt summiting Half Dome, while others simply enjoy viewing the impressive rock formation from the valley floor. Anderson Design Group showed the latter view in this turn-of-the-century illustration, depicting a lone fisherman who casts his line out while basking in the natural scene of river, forest, and the mighty mountain before him.
