- Fort Larned National Historic Site, KS: Covered Wagon
Fort Larned National Historic Site preserves Fort Larned which operated from 1859 to 1878. It is approximately 5.5 miles west of Larned, Kansas, United States. This historic site has been preserved as a complete and authentic army post from the 1860s -1870s. This well-preserved fort on the Santa Fe Trail shares a tumultuous history of the Indian Wars era. The sandstone constructed buildings sheltered troops who were known as the Guardians of the Santa Fe Trail. Built of adobe bricks, Fort Larned consisted of an officer's quarters, two combination storehouses and barracks, a guardhouse, two laundresses' quarters, and a hospital, with a bakery and meat house being later additions. Rendered by the talented artists of Anderson Design Group, this classic illustration will look great as a framed print, metal sign, canvas, or as a set of notecards or postcards.
