Sense and Sensibility is often said to be the novel that made Jane Austin a world-recognized name in literature. It was her debut novel (1811). It directs the reader through the contrasting (and comically so) lives of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor (sense/reason) and Marianne (sensibility/emotion), as they navigate love, heartbreak, and societal expectations in Regency England after their family’s financial hardship forces them to move. The tale is both entertaining and educational.
