Baltimore is a major city in Maryland with a long history as an important seaport. Fort McHenry, birthplace of the U.S. national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” sits at the mouth of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The "Baltimore Mount Vernon Place obelisk" is the first monument erected in the U.S. to honor George Washington, though it is not an obelisk but a column. Designed by Robert Mills, it's a 178-foot tall Doric column located in the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, crowned by a statue of Washington resigning his commission. Unlike the D.C. Washington Monument, it has a statue on top and offers a museum inside and a climb to the top for views of the city. The monument is a 178-foot tall column designed by architect Robert Mills. The design includes a statue of George Washington at the summit, depicting him resigning his commission as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. One of America’s oldest cities, Baltimore is also a famous college town. Baltimore is home to several prominent colleges and universities, including Towson University, the University of Maryland, Bowie State University, Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, and Loyola University Maryland. To celebrate the historic college town, Anderson Design Group's award-winning poster artists rendered an original bird’s-eye-view illustration of Baltimore. Available as a poster, print, metal sign, notecard, or postcard, this original American travel art looks just like vintage 20th-century poster art and the classic travel art of that era.
