For many years during America’s Industrial Revolution, the city of Detroit served as the backbone of this country’s industrial advances. Those visiting Detroit who wish to learn about that history should visit the Michigan Labor Legacy Monument, a monument to the American labor movement of the 19th and 20th centuries that powered the United States into the industrialized world power that it is today. Quoting the monument’s description, “In 2000, the Michigan Labor History Society formed a non-profit to create a landmark for the labor movement, to which many labor organizations contributed. David Barr, an artist from Livonia, designed the 63 foot steel arcs, while Sergio de Guisti, an Italian artist from Redford, designed the base of the monument. The monument was dedicated in August, 2003. Two steel arcs (which weigh 30 tons) almost form a circle in the landmark, but there’s a break at the top. This represents the work that still needs to be done in the movement. Around the circle are 14 Vermont granite boulders, each six feet tall. Also at the base of the monument are plaques with quotes that speak to the labor movement throughout the years.” Vintage poster art provides the perfect style for depicting American travel destinations like Detroit, and this original travel poster and hand-rendered art design will look great as an unframed print, framed illustration, notecard, postcard, metal sign, canvas, or mini canvas. Available in multiple size options, this whimsical travel art was fashioned in the style of 20th-century vintage art and the iconic travel art and retro art that first promoted American travel and adventure.
