Boasting boardwalks, beaches, the Fire Island Lighthouse, historic William Floyd Estate, and a rare “sunken forest” ecosystem of holly trees protected behind sand dunes, the seashore is a perfect getaway for those seeking a break from the Big Apple. A refuge for more than just human visitors, the park is also a migratory bird stopover, and much of the park is critical nesting habitat for endangered species like the Piping Plover.
