Metropolis is a fictitious Art Deco-styled city that caught the eye of ADG founder Joel Anderson and his talented team of illustrators while they were researching ancient wonders, legendary landmarks, lost cities, and mythological marvels. This rendering of the city of Metropolis is inspired by the 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent film directed by Fritz Lang and written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang, based on von Harbou's 1925 novel of the same name.
