Sacramento is the state capital of California and the state's oldest incorporated city. The city has grown from about 10,000 residents in the 1850s to nearly half a million residents in 2014. One of the city's landmarks, the famous Tower Bridge, is a vertical lift bridge that spans the Sacramento River. The bridge was built in 1935, a necessity to allow passage from one side of the river to the other and to also allow boat traffic below the bridge. In 1982, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Ourselves lovers of bridges and incredible feats of architecture and engineering, Anderson Design Group was inspired to sketch and illustrate a vintage travel poster of the bridge, a classic artwork styled in the retro styles of mid-century WPA-commissioned artwork. To learn more about the bridge, check out the Sacramento History Museum.
