Mont Blanc, located in the Alps on the France-Italy border, is the highest mountain in Western Europe, with its peak elevation around 4,808 meters (15,774 feet), though the exact height varies slightly with snowpack. It's a famous destination for mountaineering, often called "the roof of Europe," and is considered the birthplace of modern mountaineering.
