Some of the best travel destinations in the world are not just visually beautiful, they’re also deeply historic and educational. Case in point: Oxford, a city in central southern England, is a historic town that revolves around the prestigious Oxford University, established in the 12th century. The architecture in the city’s medieval center led poet Matthew Arnold to nickname it the ‘City of Dreaming Spires.’ For over 800 years, Oxford has been a home to royalty and scholars, and, since the 9th century, an established town, (although people are known to have lived in the area for thousands of years).
