The 'Djinn' (also spelled 'Jinn') is a spirit entity mentioned in both religious and cultural texts throughout the Arab world. Similar to the Bible's angel, the djinn is referenced numerous times in the Qur'an and is thought to be a spirit that can take on the form of an animal or a human. Djinns were believed to be made of a smokeless fire, to have free will, and to be either good or evil, much like humans. Djinns were capable of performing magic, and while they could appear in any form they pleased, they could also be invisible. While the concept of the djinn originated many centuries ago in the Middle East, western culture soon adopted the idea of the djinn, changing the name to 'Genie.' Excited by the mythical beasts, spirits, ghosts, and the rich cultural significance that follow these creatures across the world and through the centuries, Anderson Design Group poster artists hand-rendered a vintage-styled poster of what we think the djinn might have looked like. This classic design and vintage poster art is available as a poster print, canvas, metal sign, mini-canvas, or as a notecard or postcard. To learn more about the rich history of the djinn throughout Arabic culture, check out the website Inside Arabia.
