American College Towns: Knoxville, TN

Ah Knoxville. A legendary college town in its own right, Marble City is home to the University of Tennessee, Maryville College, Johnson University, South College, and others. Knoxville is also known for its impressive college athletic programs. The Tennessee Volunteers and Lady Volunteers make up the 20 varsity intercollegiate athletics programs that represent the University of Tennessee. The Volunteers compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
