Canada: Mount Royal
2018 By Aaron Johnson, Joel Anderson
About the Art
Mount Royal is perhaps the most famous feature of Montreal. Mount Royal is an impressive, ancient,
volcanic hill immediately west of downtown Montreal. The hill features three separate peaks, peaks
which range from 659 to 764 feet above sea level. Mount Royal is home to a magnificent cross, placed
there in 1924 to honor the original, wooden cross that was placed on the hill in 1643. The hill is also
home to the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Monument, a statue built in 1913. Inspired by the historic and
cultural significance of the hill, Anderson Design Group created an artwork rendition of its own, a
depiction in early-20th century Golden Age of Illustration styles to appropriately salute the historic
nature of the mountain. To learn more about the hill and other Montreal attractions, check out the Canada
Guide.
