About the Art

Nicknamed “The Holy City,” Charleston is the oldest and largest city in South Carolina. The city was founded in 1670, and it has served immense historical significance since then. Today, the city is known for magnificent architecture, much of which has been preserved and restored. The city is frequently recognized for its hospitable people, making Charleston a popular tourist destination. People travel from all around to see 19th century southern architecture, much of which is best seen in the city’s historic downtown district. These old, historic buildings served as the inspiration for our Charleston illustration. An original Joel Anderson design, this vintage illustration is hand-drawn and colored in the illustration styles of the early-1900s.
