About the Art
The name “Chattanooga” is an old Creek Indian word for “rock coming to a point.” This refers to the
famous Lookout Mountain, one of the city’s most notable features. Chattanooga is called the Scenic
City because of its beautiful geography. The city is tucked into a valley between the Appalachian
Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. The city is surrounded by mountains and ridges, creating
scenic landscapes within sight from almost anywhere in the city. Inspired by that mountainous
backdrop, Anderson Design Group created a vintage travel poster of the city, commemorating its vistas.
The poster is styled after the design patterns of the early-20th century, right when Chattanooga was
moving out of the Reconstruction Era and approaching new industrialization. To learn more about the
city, visit the Chattanooga Area Convention & Visitor’s
Bureau.
