About the Art
Nicknamed the Forest City for the surrounding wooded areas that shoulder in close to the city,
Portland, Maine is a mariner town, a foodie town, and a historic region all in one. The much larger city
of Portland, Oregon is actually named after Portland, Maine. Portland is often thought to be a city of
survivors, as the city has survived fires, wars, famines, and countless brutal winters. Inspired by both
the fighting spirit of the city’s inhabitants and the sweeping vistas just off the city’s coast, Anderson
Design Group crafted a handmade, vintage travel poster art of one of the city’s lighthouses shining a
safe route of passage to approaching watercraft. To learn more about the city and its exciting history,
check out the material at the Visit Portland Administrative Office.
