Sputnik 1: The First Artificial Earth Satellite
2023 By Aaron Johnson, Joel Anderson
About the Art
History changed on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I. The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball (58 centimeters, or 22.8 inches in diameter), weighed only 83.6 kilograms, or 183.9 pounds, and took about 98 minutes to orbit Earth on its elliptical path. That launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments. While the Sputnik launch was a single event. American scientists at NASA doubled down on their efforts, marking the start of the space age and the U.S.-U.S.S.R. space race. Anderson Design Group has rendered this classic space travel design in the tradition of the futuristic, overly-optimistic, American Atomic Age. Fashioned after the vintage poster art and retro illustrations of the mid-20th century, this art is perfect for decorating kids rooms, man caves, and mod pads. Without a doubt, this original design and colorful vintage illustration is totally Out Of This World! This retro-styled interstellar illustration will look great as an art print, notecard, postcard, metal sign, canvas, or mini canvas.
