El Capitan is an iconic vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park, on the north side of Yosemite Valley. The granite monolith is about 3,000 feet from base to summit along its tallest face and is popular with rock climbers. Yosemite Valley is about 3,000 feet deep, and it runs for about 7 miles before it opens out into wider lands. The valley is densely populated with pine groves. Some who have visited the valley liken it to the Garden of Eden, as it is a secluded and serene region untouched by the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
