The Lost World: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Lost World is a science fiction novel by British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1912. It tells the story of an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals still survive. In it, the hot-tempered Professor Challenger has organized an expedition to the wild jungles of South America. Together with a fellow scientist, a hunter, and a journalist, he makes his way to a volcanic plateau where they encounter creatures left over from another age. Exciting, imaginative, and humorous from start to finish, The Lost World is a treat for readers of all ages. It was originally published serially in the Strand Magazine and illustrated by New-Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree during the months of April–November 1912.
