The numerical designation of "U.S. Route 66" was assigned on April 30, 1926. Standing proudly along Route 66 west of Amarillo, Texas, Cadillac Ranch is a famously odd public art installation and sculpture. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez, and Doug Michels. The installation consists of 10 Cadillacs buried nose-first in the ground.
