About the Art

Here lies one of the most somber, unique parks on the NPS roster. There are no roads to Kalaupapa, as it is located on a peninsula separated from the rest of the island of Moloka’i by sea cliffs rising 2,000 feet above the ocean. The park preserves the site of a former colony of exiles, Hawaiians who had been diagnosed with Hansen’s disease (leprosy). Once a prison, the park is now a story in historical preservation and a home to some who have recovered from the disease but still choose to live in the community they spent their lives establishing. Available as a poster, framed print, notecard, postcard, metal sign, or canvas, this original national park art would look great on any wall. For a full list of national park sites in all 50 states, check out the official website for the National Park Service.
