Laona, Wisconsin: Lumberjack Steam Train & Museum
2019 By Derek Anderson, Joel Anderson
About the Art
Ever feel the urge to travel the American railways on an old-fashioned steam train? You can do just
that on the Lumberjack Steam Train, a fully functioning steam locomotive located in Laona,
Wisconsin. This train was built in 1916, and it’s been maintained and operated ever since! The train
was used in the logging industry in Laona back in the 1920s, and though logging is now done quite
differently, the train stayed on as a historical item. In fact, this locomotive is the only operating
“Prairie” style steam train in the world today. Our illustrators get doe-eyed whenever we learn about
something historical and antiquated that is still being preserved and actively used, so we had to create a
turn-of-the-century styled illustration of the train. To learn more about the train, check out the Lumberjack
Steam Train website.
