Life On The Mississippi: Mark Twain
2026 By Derek Anderson, Joel Anderson
About the Art
Life on the Mississippi (1883) is Mark Twain's memoir about his time as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before the Civil War, blending autobiography, travelogue, and social commentary with his signature humor and wit. The book chronicles his apprenticeship under a seasoned pilot, the science of river navigation, and the vibrant, vanishing culture of the steamboat era, contrasting it with his later return to a river transformed by the railroad. It's a classic American work that serves as a historical record, a collection of anecdotes, and a reflection on a bygone way of life. To celebrate a classic book, the artists of Anderson Design Group rendered this iconic book cover, vintage poster design, and classic literature art as a part of the Literary Classics Collection, celebrating great books of all genres in 20th-century-inspired art, poster art, and original illustrations. This retro art is available as a poster, print, notecard, postcard, canvas, or metal sign.
