Santa Cruz, CA: World Surfing Reserve
2018 By Derek Anderson, Joel Anderson
About the Art
Santa Cruz is known for a lot of things, but one of the city’s claims to fame is its efforts to preserve and
conserve local surfing beaches, regions where visitors and locals alike have been surfing for decades.
In fact, Santa Cruz is even home to the World Surfing Reserve, an international conservation effort
designed to protect at-risk beaches and surfing hotspots. Inspired by the idea of conservation efforts to
protect the very wave breaks that surfers value, Anderson Design Group handcrafted a vintage travel
poster of the World Surfing Reserve headquarters. The illustration features a statue of a lone surfer
looking out over the Pacific Ocean. You can order this retro travel poster as a canvas banner, metal
sign, art print, framed postcard, canvas, or as a set of notecards or postcards. To learn more about the
Reserve, check out the Save the Waves Coalition.
