Most of the characters are animals, such as Shere Khan, the tiger, and Baloo, the bear, though the principal character is the boy, or "man-cub," named Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves. The stories provide compelling narratives and exciting themes while maintaining an underlying message of morality, virtue, and goodness.
