“Where roads are lacking, let the river be your guide.” This national preserve protects the Charley River basin, including where it joins the mighty Yukon River. A unique feature is that the park is more wild today than it was a century ago. During the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, tens of thousands of prospectors surged through the region, but they quickly left behind ghost towns and abandoned mining sites and equipment, somber whispers of what were once great ambitions.
